Biography. My first piercing was my right ear lobe, which I had done in a jewellery shop in Chelmsford, Essex, my home town, when I was fourteen.I think I was bored of being the quiet, unfashionable kid at school anddecided to be more provocative. This was 1984, ear piercings on men were starting to be seen again, nose piercings were still associated with punks.I was unaware of any other types of body piecings

After a couple more visits to the ear piercer I decided to start piercing my own ears, and my nose. Multiple ear and nose piercings certainly provoked a reaction in a small town like Chelmsford. In 1986, and not long after I started at Braintree art colledge the first edition of Body Art magazine hit the shelves. This glossy magazine looked at human physical expression and was for me an eye opener, as i had never seen pictures of nipple or genital piercings. I was corrupted.I moved to High Wycombe in 1988 to do a degree in 3-D design, specialising in jewellery making, this would enable me to expand my interest in body art.Around this time I bought a piercing gun and would pierce friends ears andnoses (and anyone else who sat still for long enough)

.My first body piercings were my nipples, done in 1992, just after i graduated. These were done by Teena Marie at Into You in London, and followed over a two year by navel, P.A, tongue, and septum at Into You and double eyebrow, double rook, and lip done by Grant at Cold Steel.I developed ideas for body jewellery through discusions with these piercers and other people I met in the industry.

I decided to start in business making body jewellery.Initially I had small workshop on an airfield in High Wycombe, from here I made mostly body jewellery for studios in and around London, Hamburg, Stockholm, and sold pieces at U.K. tattoo conventions.I was one of the first custom body jewellery makers in the U.K. and the first to use Titanium and Niobium. In 1996 I decide to move to Edinburgh and set up Tribal Body Art with Sarah Street and Steve Scott, we opened in May 1996.I'm still making body jewellery and fine jewellery, both ranges and commisions and still have a passion for body art.As well as examples of my work on this website, there is more fine Jewellery at wwwjaredsanders.com.There are also many items in the shop, or if you cannot see what your
